Guantanamo – The gong will sound this Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. in the Rafael Castiello Roofed Hall to make the 61st edition of the Playa Giron National Boxing Tournament until the 26th of the current month, a success in Guantanamo.
Two Guantanameros will climb in this first poster: Yasiel Balbier in 51 kilograms, who from the red corner will face Yusiel Fabregas from Santiago de Cuba, and in the 57 kilograms, in the blue corner Jonierki Arguelles will face Reysel Moncada from Camagüey.
Yesterday, the Technical Congress of the 61st edition of the National Boxing Tournament was held in the presence of Alberto Puig De La Barca, President of the Cuban Boxing Federation.
The Guantanamo fans are waiting to see in action the Double Champions under the five rings, the local Arlen Lopez Cardona, in the 80 kilograms, and Julio Cesar La Cruz, from Camaguey, in the 90 kilograms, already qualified to Paris, France 2024.
There will also be Alejandro Claro from Sancti Spíritus in the 51 and Saidel Horts from Cienfuegos in the 57 with a ticket to the city of light.
Sancti Spíritus as current monarch, Camaguey for years at the top, Guantánamo as power and host, and Cienfuegos appear as favorites to occupy the first places.
The easternmost of Cuba’s provinces had not organized a Playa Giron since 2009. Therefore, the followers of the sport of fists in this terroir were “clamoring” for a new edition at home.
“Guantanamo is a land of champions in this sport.
The fans know it and we are sure that they will fill the stands. We have done our best, because in spite of the known difficulties to organize a national tournament, boxing was granted a yes”, said the provincial director of Sports of Guantánamo, Richard Cruz.

2.- 51 kilograms: Pedro Estrada (Ciego de Àvila, Red corner) VS Jesús Alvarez (Santiago de Cuba, Blue corner).
3.- 51 kilograms: Ehibrajan Perera (Cienfuegos, Red corner) VS Yonder Perez (Havana, Red corner).
4.- 51 kilograms: Yasiel Balbier (Guantanamo, Red corner) VS Yuniel Fabregas (Santiago de Cuba, Blue corner).
5.- 51 kilograms: Andiel Garcia (Camaguey, Red corner VS Yusiel Bes (Granma, Blue corner).
6.- 51 kilograms: Brayan Mederos (Mayabeque, Red corner) VS Darwin Torres (Holguin, Blue corner).
7.- 57 kilograms: Reysel Moncada (Camagüey, Red corner) VS Jonieski Arguelles (Guantánamo, Blue corner).
8.- 57 kilograms: Leonel Lores (Mayabeque, Red corner) VS Yosiel Despaigne (Santiago de Cuba, Blue corner).
