The 130th anniversary of the death of Mariana Grajales Coello, in Kingston, Jamaica, and the shooting of eight medical students, one of the most horrendous crimes committed by the Spanish colonial regime in Cuba, 152 years after that event, were recalled today in Guantanamo.

In the presence of Yoel Pérez García, first secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in this city, and Alis Azahares Torreblanca, the speakers denounced the injustice committed against those young people killed in 1871 and repudiated the imperial crimes perpetrated in the world today.

Martha Reyes Noa, president of the Aponte Commission in the territory, evoked the figure of Mariana Grajales, a symbol of strength, humility and decorum, paradigm of woman and mother, progenitor of los Maceo, a lineage that symbolizes all the nobility and value of the people Cuban.

She noted that she also dedicated her life to the fight for independence, to which she gave, with the love of a mother and the pride of a patriot, all her children and encouraged her husband to follow them, immediately becoming an irreducible mambi fighter.

As a culmination of the event, a group of young people became new members of the Cuban Women Federation, from the hands of Alídice Gené Sierra, first secretary of the organization in the province.
