The Temporary Working Group in Guantanamo implemented strategies to reduce damages that may be caused by heavy rains to occur from Friday through Sunday as forecasted by the Cuban Weather Institute,
Specialists warned of a high probability starting tonight, associated with a trough and a low pressure system with an extensive area of clouds with rains and thunderstorms.
Given these forecasts, the socioeconomic activities and infrastructure that will maintain vitality in the territory were specified, the early warning of coastal flooding in the municipality of Baracoa, the monitoring of the filling capacity of the reservoirs and the protection of people who live near the waters, and the evacuation of residents in flood zones, nephrotic patients and full-term pregnant women.
At the meeting, the care and protection of the more than six thousand students in the 52 internal educational institutions, the activation of six medical teams distributed in areas of difficult access with risk of being cut off, and the activation of medical personnel in evacuation centers.
Likewise, the provision of resources for water purification, the protection of agricultural products, and the harvest, collection and marketing of food from the municipalities of Yateras, Maisí and San Antonio del Sur to the provincial capital was analyzed.
The Temporary Working Group urged the population to take all preventive measures, keep informed and comply with the Guidelines of the Civil Defense and the Institute of Meteorology.
