Guantanamo.- The Science and Technology Unit in Guantanamo that belongs to the National Soil Institute, is working on scientific tasks, in favor of counteracting the desertification, degradation processes and drought in this province caused by climate change.

One of the most outstanding results is aimed at the work on the soil, water and forest polygons existing in the province for the application of technologies, in order to take advantage of idle lands and find solutions to erosion, as well as the effects caused by the lack of rainfall, among others.

The staff of the Science and Technology Unit stands out for the production of worm humus, along with other organic fertilizers, which allow mitigating the impact of the lack of inputs and increase the nutrition of the cultivable lands, says Marianela Cintra Arencibia, director of the Soil Unit in the territory.

Likewise, the MSC. Cintra Arencibia recognized that the specialists of the center share their experience with the producers on the principles of conservation agriculture to achieve better yields in Guantánamo from the approaches of agroecology.

As part of its comprehensive work, the staff of the Science and Technology Unit, known as Guantánamo Soils, participates in the development of research and service projects to preserve this natural resource, in favor of the survival of the species and the economic development of the countries.
