Guantánamo stands out among the provinces with the greatest forest heritage in the country, based on the promotion of plantations, adequate forestry management and the increase in micro-nurseries specialized in the propagation of native and endangered species.

This work involves cooperatives, forestry companies, the Flora and Fauna company, the protected areas system, among other actors who contribute to the care and reforestation of different areas of the territory.

In this sense, the actions of the State Plan for Confronting Climate Change (Tarea Vida) that are being implemented under the sustainable management indicators to preserve and increase forest areas, have influenced.

Main reforestation scenarios are the Guantánamo-Guaso and Toa hydrographic basins of national interest, among other sites where it is necessary to protect water, soil and fruit and timber tree plantations.

Among the actions, the territory stands out for its silvicultural treatment and specialized attention to the mangrove areas on the coasts of Baracoa, Caimanera and within the perimeter of the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park, on the World Heritage List.

Work is also being done in the forest areas of the Southern Coastal Strip of the province, as part of the efforts to protect this heritage and at the same time mitigate the effects of climate change.

Guantánamo continues its actions to reduce the risks of forest fires, the reforestation program of the watersheds and the Life Task program, in favor of protecting this natural resource.
