Artemisa team improved its historic performance, as they had two bronze medals in previous tournaments. In the discussion of the bronze medals, Havana beat Santiago de Cuba 2-1 with scores of 4-10, 13-3 and 6-1. The team of Havana lost the Cuban title in this sport for the first time.
Liorvis Savón, director of the national champions, in statements to the press, said that winning the title was a goal for all members:
“Sacrifice has been the key. A lot of hard work and a lot of responsibility on the part of the athletes and coaches, in pursuit of achieving the goal. We were mentally aware that after Havana there could not be another national champion other than us.”
