Guantánamo. – Days of intense activity are underway in Guantánamo as workers do their best to inaugurate several projects with significant economic and social impact, undertaken by various organizations and entities, in celebration of the 67th anniversary of the Triumph of the Cuban Revolution.
In conjunction with ongoing recovery efforts in several areas to continue the program to stabilize the water supply for the population, construction brigades specializing in hydraulic resources are working on the completion of a small water treatment plant, powered by solar panels, in the community of Oquendo in the coastal municipality of San Antonio del Sur.
Similarly, brigades from the sector are working on the Canes-Maraví water network in Baracoa, and on the completion of the “La Vieja” and “Maya” aqueducts in Maisí, a municipality that has suffered from water shortages in recent times.
Carlos Raúl Martínez Turro, Vice Governor, reported that the projects include 55 educational institutions damaged by the hurricane, as well as several warehouses and other commercial establishments, primarily in the municipalities of Guantánamo, Manuel Tames, and Baracoa.
Brigades from the non-state sector and from the public health sector are working on the intermediate care unit and diagnostic center at the “Pedro Agustín Pérez” Pediatric Hospital; the ward for patients with chronic disabilities at the “Luis Ramírez López” Psychiatric Hospital in Guantánamo; along with a maternity home, a doctor’s office, and a senior citizens’ home in San Antonio del Sur, and a similar facility in Maisí.
Due to its social impact, the completion of a center for the care of homeless people, the “El Algarrobo” photovoltaic park in the municipality of Guantánamo, and a small solar park in the mountainous area of “La Escondida” in El Salvador, stand out among the social projects.
The members of the Cuban Fund for Cultural Assets in Guantánamo are working in the completion of a briquette factory that will contribute to make musical instruments and other artistic works.
