Guantánamo – Yoel Pérez García, president of the Provincial Defense Council in Guantánamo, called in Baracoa, to achieve greater popular participation in the recovery of social units and institutions.

The call was made this Thursday at the meeting to review the actions to compensate for the damage caused by Hurricane Oscar to this northeastern municipality.

The leader considered it unacceptable that there is no participation of the people in the repair of facilities in different sectors such as commerce, health and education, which have a large number of centers with damages and despite having resources, the progress is not notable.

He stressed the need to speed up the completion of the work of the processing offices established in the defense zones to close the technical file of each affected house, a document that shows the amount of materials required for the repair, the amount to be paid for it and the payment method that the affected person chooses.

On the subject, he urged, once again, all those involved in the task to thoroughly review the damage to the houses to avoid situations that can lead to crimes and illegalities, since the complex economic situation that the country faces demands seriousness and responsibility in the allocation of material resources.

At the meeting, information was provided on the work during this day by the different groups that make up the Municipal Defense Council, highlighting the recovery of telephone service, already at 86 percent, with the reestablishment of 4,967 services and the commitment to complete the task by the end of the weekend.

The energy group announced that the communities of Arroyón and El Hondón, in the district of Mosquitero, are still without electricity due to the complexity of the road that has not allowed access; and reported on the treatment of complaints from the population, which continue to be high.

Alis Azahares Torreblanca, vice president of the Provincial Defense Council, participated in the meeting, in which the top leader called to expedite delivery of resources that arrive by different means for the people of Baracoa.
