Guantanamo.- The search for territorial alternatives to satisfy basic needs of the Guantanamo population was one of the main demands of the highest authorities of the Party and the Government this Tuesday at the vitality meeting, a morning meeting of directors in the province.

The local authorities analyzed the water supply to areas affected by drought with alternative methods, to guarantee this service to the population and avoid impacts on agricultural production, in municipalities such as Niceto Pérez, Caimanera and hard-to-reach communities such as Jobito, in San Antonio del Sur.

Due to the situation in the province during this dry period – reservoirs at 44 percent of their capacity – an agreement was reached to encourage actions to face the drought, from meteorological studies and rain predictions by specialists from CITMA (Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment), monitoring of water reservoirs, as well as the identification of areas in intense drought and proposals for actions to mitigate adverse effects, starting by eradicating leaks.

Although, processing an investment with the management of the Cuban Radiocommunication and Broadcasting Enterprise (Radiocuba) constitutes the way to solve the deficiencies of the television signal in some areas of the Maisí Municipality; Yoel Pérez García, first secretary of the Party in Guantánamo urged to look for urgent alternatives to provide the service that is interrupted due to the lack of electricity in Sierra Verde, site where the radio base is located.

Likewise, the first secretary evaluated specific problems with the supply of milk to children since the Guantánamo municipality failed to comply with the commitment with a deficit of more than 120 liters of fluid; while Niceto Pérez stabilized production after control actions.

The meeting reviewed the distribution of the basic basket, which must begin with rice (the only product available) in the provincial capital and the municipalities of Maisí, Baracoa and Caimanera; in addition to the availability of flour for standardized bread, currently with one-day coverage.

Paying special attention to the opinion of the people was the call by audio conference of Pérez García to the municipal authorities, in the daily meeting where the main events and irregularities that affect the economic and social development of the eastern end of the country are analyzed.

Alis Azahares Torreblanca, Governor of Guantanamo, reiterated at the vitality meeting the review of the progress of the banking process, which shows stagnation and regression in some municipalities, and demanded not justifications but daily actions to collect cash in banks, such as the collection of fines; and other fiscal control.

Azahares Torreblanca was emphatic in this regard and urged the municipal authorities to raise the demand and control so that banking undergoes transformation in the Guantanamo territory, since its poor functioning is one of the main dissatisfactions of the population.
