Guantánamo – Having been recognized as a leading province for union work in 2025, Guantánamo is celebrating nowadays the 87th anniversary of the Cuban Workers Federation (CTC, in Spanish abbreviation) that was founded on January 28.
According to Juana Eglis Fernández Louit, General Secretary of the CTC in eastern Cuba, said that this time, they are commemorating the 173rd anniversary of the birth of National Hero José Martí, the Centennial of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro, the 22nd Congress of the proletarian organization.
She also explained that efforts are being redoubled to meet the goals set to date, and work is being planned for the current year. “In the province, the celebrations begin on the 24th with a focus on food production and the formation of worker contingents to support the sugarcane harvest,” she said.
Among other activities, outstanding workers will be recognized with the Labor Feat award, and voluntary blood donation distinction.
Regarding the province’s current status as a leading province, Juana Eglis said “it is the result of organized work and close involvement in tasks that have an impact on the economy and the fulfillment of each worker’s contribution to the nation and 95 percent staffing coverage.”
For this year, the Guantánamo branch of the CTC (Central Organization of Cuban Workers) has set new goals aimed at achieving 70 percent unionization in the non-state sector; reducing the number of loss-making companies; increasing exports; reaching 100 percent coverage of available positions; and continuing to work on combating crime and corruption.
