Guantánamo.- In response to the heavy rains that have affected the Cuban easternmost province, the Guantánamo University followed its protocols, designating its facilities as an evacuation center. So far, no evacuations have been reported at the student boarding house.
The educational institution prioritizes the protection of its facilities and laboratories, especially the computer labs and storage areas, to prevent material damage. In an effort to safeguard equipment and furniture, all facilities are inspected and sealed.
Those showing signs of moisture or risk of leaks are subject to a relocation plan, moving equipment and furniture to better protected spaces.
Additionally, the university has limited access to its facilities, allowing only essential personnel. This measure seeks to guarantee the payment of the salary scheduled for October 5th, thus ensuring the continuity of administrative operations.
Academic activities will resume as soon as the weather is suitable. The university stays vigilant and continues to monitor weather reports and to inform its community of any changes.
The university reaffirms its commitment to the overall well-being of its students and staff and appreciates everyone’s understanding and cooperation during this emergency period.
