Guantanamo.- The Guantanamo environment and biodiversity will be the main attractions for attendees at Turnat 2024, the most important international nature tourism event in the Greater Antilles, which in this XIV edition will take place from September 24 to 29, in the Cuban eastern provinces  Granma, Santiago de Cuba and Guantanamo.

Arlín Alonso Ávila, commercial specialist of the territorial delegation of the Ministry of Tourism in this province, commented that everything is ready for the event, in which the essence of Guantanamo will be projected to the world, in a combination of culture, nature and history tourism.

She reported that the event will take place in the province from September 26 to 28 and will have the participation of 30 delegates, including tour operators, travel agencies, promoters and opinion leaders who know, love, promote and manage nature tourism.

The designed route will take participants through some emblematic sites of the province, starting in the First Cuban Village, Baracoa, where they will enjoy the Duaba Campsite, a country facility on the banks of the river of the same name, which stands out among fruit and timber trees, in a charming environment.

The tour of the Cuban landscape city also includes climbing El Yunque Mountain, a National Monument that is refuge for endemic species, and a visit to the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park, a World Heritage Site, which treasures the highest levels of biodiversity and endemism in the Antilles and is among the highest in the world.

Also the exploration of trails such as the one in Bahía de Taco, where the manatee lives, currently in danger of extinction; the Balcón de Iberia, habitat of the Polymitas, one of the smallest vertebrate species in the world and the Yumurí Belete area, where the Yumurí canyon is located.

The Turnat route also includes viewpoints such as La Gobernadora, from where the illegal American naval base can be seen, the Viaducto (Highway) La Farola, one of the seven wonders of Cuban civil engineering, and Punta de Silencio, in Maisí, with beautiful views of the elevated marine terraces, one of the best preserved in the world due to the interaction of the global sea level and tectonics.

Alonso Ávila specified that the event was organized in six route groups, and Guantánamo ranks number three, with the main activity of photographic safari, which will allow participants to capture natural beauty in images, which will travel the world through social networks.

The Turnat is held every two years in various regions of the country, and in addition to showcasing Cuba’s natural potential; it also promotes the conservation of natural resources and encourages cooperation between actors in the tourist landscape, seeking to enrich the local tourist offer.
