Guantanamo is one of the territories that stands out in the country for working on an agroecological environmental policy, based on studies and the use of sustainable practices with the environment, in interrelation with the different organizations.
This task is materialized from research, monitoring of natural resources, management and protection strategies, together with organizations that are committed to sustainable use of water, forests, soils, flora and fauna, which influences also in the socioeconomic development of the territory.
Guantanamo also stands out as the province with the highest number of Hazard Studies, number of Vulnerabilities and Risks (PVR) certified at the national level, whose results constitute valuable knowledge for governments, organizations and institutions, in favor of adopting measures in each case and prevent unfortunate events.
Likewise, based on the proper management of resources, this territory stands out for the conservation of areas such as the Maisí Yumurí Protected Natural Landscape, the Yara Majayara Outstanding Natural Element, the Hatibonico Ecological Reserve and the Alejandro de Humboldt National Park, a World Heritage Site, where the natural values make them area’s tourist attraction.
Guantanamo environmentalists stand out for their actions to preserve biodiversity and ecosystems in general, in the face of the impact of climate change and environmental pollution caused by human activity, in response to the call to contribute to life in harmony with nature.
