Guantánamo – Showing the most authentic traditions, the Association of Haitian Descendants in the Guantánamo Province celebrated the Haitian Day in Cuba on September 24, at the Casa del Changüí “Chito Latamblé Veranes,” The meeting was enlivened by bearer and performing groups Assossyé and Cossiá that inherited Haitian traditional culture.
During the meeting, Hougan Francisco Díaz Díaz, president of this association in the territory, shared a congratulatory message in Creole language with the Guantanamo community of Haitian descendants. A remembrance moment was then held to remember the Rebel Army combatant Emilio Bárcenas Pier`s 98th birth anniversary, which was attended by his nephew Carlos Pier Kindelán.
Students from the Alfredo Velázquez Carcassés Professional Dance School also joined in this celebration with choreography of a Haitian merengue, by the teacher Guilberto Felix Díaz.
The activity was also distinguished by the sale of crafts and typical dishes of the culinary culture of this community.
Likewise, Popó y su Changüí came from the Honduras town to celebrate Haitian Day in Cuba with Guantanamo native rhythm. The band made several generations of Haitian descendants participating in the meeting dancing, which was also attended by representatives of the University of Guantánamo, and also the promoters of Lakou Lwa which are driving joint research projects of sustainable development with this community in the territory.
