Guantanamo.- The health system in the province continues to provide care to patients with chronic kidney disease through three hemodialysis shifts per day and the operation of 17 functioning dialysis units, in addition to the water treatment plant.
According to Dr. Alibeth Ferrand Yopi, head of the Nephrology Department at the Provincial General Hospital Despite, shortages of dialyzers, tubing, concentrates, and other medical supplies, renal replacement therapy is being maintained through resource conservation and reuse devices if it is permitted.
Given the fuel shortage, dialysis treatment is also continuing thanks to the transfer of patients from Manuel Tames, El Salvador, Yateras, Caimanera, and San Antonio del Sur to the homes of relatives and the Nephrotic Care Center, as well as the option of admission to the largest health institution in the province.
