Guantanamo.-The 22nd edition of the Research Workshop “Baracoa: History, Culture, and Traditions” will honor Cuba’s first town, taking place this Monday. This event will showcase various presentations, including a focus on the significant visit of Fidel Castro to the Baracoa region on June 27, 1959, shortly after the revolution’s success on January 1.

The workshop will delve into topics such as the history of the Municipal Concert Band and the contributions of outstanding figures from Baracoa. Additionally, it will feature an awards ceremony recognizing researchers and institutions for their dedication to local history, alongside the “Where the Palm Grows” contest winners.

Highlighting the event will be a special presentation by Master of Science Alejandro Hartman, who is the City Historian distinguished with the National Cultural Heritage Award. This workshop commemorates the centennial of Fidel Castro’s birth and the 120th anniversary of the Municipal Concert Bandas well as celebrates Baracoa’s 515th anniversary on August 15, with various activities planned to showcase its rich heritage.
