Guantanamo.- In the municipality of San Antonio del Sur, in Guantanamo Province, the recovery process continues following the damage caused by Hurricanes Oscar and Melissa, with efforts focused on the housing sector, the Municipal Defense Council reported.
After the battering of Hurricane Oscar last October 29th, 513 homes were damaged, with partial roof damage. Of these, 32 houses were completely damaged in the San Antonio town and 42 in Macambo settlement.
To address this damage, fiber cement and zinc roofing tiles were sold at subsidized prices, allowing for the repair of homes with damaged roofs.
Melissa left 736 people affected; subsidized materials are also being distributed to them, enabling the rapid repair of homes.
In areas such as Viento Frío, Puriales de Caujerí, and El Valle, wooden houses with zinc roofs, adapted to the geographical and climatic conditions of the area, will be built with the support of cooperatives.
