Guantánamo.- Hurricane Melissa, one of the most powerful storms ever recorded in the Caribbean, has devastated eastern Cuba with torrential rains, massive flooding and winds up to 295 km/h. Meanwhile, an ongoing arbovirus outbreak worsens health risks.

The IFRC has launched an emergency appeal for 15 million Swiss francs to support the Cuban Red Cross response in assisting 100,000 people affected by Hurricane Melissa and the country’s arbovirus outbreak.

The Cuban Red Cross is providing emergency shelter, safe water, health and psychosocial support, while also working to prevent the spread of infectious diseases spread.
