Guantanamo.- The people of Imías paid tribute to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the top leader of the Cuban Revolution, and demonstrated their commitment to continue the Cuban socialist project during the provincial event for the 66th anniversary of January 1st, held in the Plaza 28 de Septiembre of that Guantanamo municipality.

At the event, chaired by Yoel Pérez García, first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Party in Guantánamo, and the Governor Alis Azahares Torreblanca, institutions and mass organizations of the coastal territory were recognized, which stand out in the fulfillment of the main socioeconomic indicators, as well as in the recovery tasks after the passage of Hurricane Oscar.

In turn, entities, media outlets and political and mass organizations were awarded at the provincial level for their contributions to the socioeconomic development of the Cuban Alto Oriente, while the municipalities of Maisí and Yateras received the status of outstanding.

In key speech of the massive act, Yoel Pérez García praised the work of the Imias people, who allowed the municipality to achieve a hundred percent efficiency in the collection of fines, to exceed retail sales by 4.4 percent, as well as the execution of the financing provided for in the demographic policies, social assistance and to promote local development.

He said that Imias, as well as San Antonio del Sur Baracoa and Maisí, is rising to the effects caused by Hurricane Oscar, and he mentioned that electricity, communications and water supply were recovered at the one hundred percent, while the road infrastructure (bridges, sewers and roads) is recovered at more than 95 percent.

In his speech, Pérez García explained that despite 2024 being one of the most difficult years that the Revolution has had to face, Guantánamo has achieved a growth of more than 2,890 hectares in the cold season, exceeding indicators with respect to previous periods, and highlighted how the infant mortality rate is reduced compared to the previous year.

At the end of the meeting, the keys to the first 18 homes were symbolically handed over to those people affected by total collapse of houses, caused by Hurricane Oscar, which were built in the area known as the Airport.

Other facilities were refurbished as the bakery in the Jesús Lores neighborhood, the most populated area in the municipality, and the Yacabo Abajo community; the Blas Roca primary school, the warehouse, and the Family Care System Unit, entities seriously damaged by the passage of the meteor.
