Guantanamo.- The national event for Art Instructor Day took place at the Guaso Theater in Guantanamo City, in recognition of the province’s work in sociocultural projects and the impact on Cuban artistic promotion.
With more than 940 professionals in Guantánamo, the venue of the event was given for the sustained work in educational institutions, cultural centers and outstanding participation in national events, factors that have positioned the territory as a reference in artistic activity.
Among the initiatives that support this award, there are sociocultural projects such as Guayacán Negro, Changüiseros Unidos por una Sonrisa and Artesaneando con Yeni, presented at the V National Forum Patria Chica, which the province also hosted. These initiatives not only enriched the local heritage, but also boosted Guantánamo at a national level.
To reach this date, from February 10th, the instructors’ day takes place throughout the country, which includes tributes for the 20th anniversary of the José Martí Brigade, the 45th anniversary of the Olga Alonso group, the 40th anniversary of the Rubén López Sabariego Cultural House and the amateur artists’ movement.
During the event, the Best Art Instructor of the year is awarded, to recognize those who have promoted social transformation through creation and teaching.
Art Instructor’s Day pays tribute to the birth of the outstanding Theater Instructor Olga Alonso González, who was born on that day in 1945, one of the first to respond to Fidel Castro’s call for young people to study art, and then go to the most remote places in the country to teach its inhabitants.
The celebration is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the José Martí Brigade, the 80th birth anniversary of Olga Alonso and the 130th anniversary of the landing of Martí and Gómez at Playita de Cajobabo.
