Guantanamo.- Residents of the Caimanera community of Hatibonico exchanged this Wednesday with Yoel Pérez García, first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba in Guantánamo, through the space Open Dialogue with the People, an exercise of genuine popular participation, where the community talks about government management and expresses its concerns.
At the meeting, which was attended by Alis Azahares Torreblanca, governor, along with other government authorities in the province and municipality of Caimanera, the decision of Donald Trump, US president, to transfer more than 30 thousand emigrants to the nearby naval base, territory illegally occupied by the United States, was updated.
Major Hector Mendez Rojas reported on the preparation of the Border Brigade guards and on the monthly dialogues that take place between the military commanders of Cuba and the naval base, based on mutual respect.
He reported on the difficult energy situation that the country is going through, the new photovoltaic generation projects that will be added to the 46 parks planned in the country for this year, as well as the distribution of the basic family food basket.
Regarding the stability of the routes to the municipality of Caimanera and the city of Guantanamo, Henrry Terrero, Transport delegate, announced that starting next Monday 17, the first trip that connects the community with the provincial capital will go to the General Hospital Doctor Agustinho Neto, which is a request from the residents.
He added that the arrival of three more comfortable buses (taken from Tourism) is expected soon, which will take the routes of Ullao, Caimanera and Hatibonico.
The recovery of the farm, which provided self-supply for the town of Hatibonico, was among the main requests by the residents, who recalled the productive era of the more than two caballerías (a land measurement of varying size usually 42 hectares) of land, a fertile land where vegetables, root crops and grains were harvested.
In response, details were offered of a technological innovation project, approved by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment, which will allow the productivity of the areas to be recovered, and which Pérez García will check.
Other concerns were with the installation of a dental service, a kit donated to the community by the late Army Corps General Sixto Batista Santana, which remains in the town’s pharmacy awaiting the construction of a building for its use, an issue that found a solution with the agreement to adapt an unused house.
The quality of the construction of the houses, the reanimation of the buildings and the request for classrooms in the primary school for basic secondary school students, were other concerns expressed at the meeting.
Yoel Pérez García reviewed these demands directly and thanked the participation of the residents, who, with humility, respect and commitment, expressed their concerns and promoted the collective search for solutions for the neighborhood, in a space where the Revolution is always strengthened.
