Guantanamo– The Plaza de la Revolución Mayor General Serafín Sánchez Valdivia was the setting for the commemoration of the 71st anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks and a place where the Hero of the Three Wars of Independence of the 19th century is honored.

Salvador Valdés Mesa, member of the Political Bureau of the Party and Cuban Vice President, who was in charge of the central speeches, underlined the consequences of the intensified economic, commercial and financial blockade of the United States government against Cuba.

He praised the economic and social results of the people of Sancti Spiritus, and said that “like all our people, they have known how to be, once again, at the height of their glorious history, which treasures an admirable legacy of tradition of struggle from the colonial period to the present.”

Later, the Cuban vice president specified that “Sancti Spíritus has a prominent place in the war of liberation and in the dedication of its children to the Homeland and to the construction of the new society, anticipated by Fidel in the Moncada program.”

Deivy Pérez, member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and first secretary in the province, highlighted the effort of the people and pointed out that Sancti Spíritus is the land of mambises who will follow the March, as Serafín, who was mortally wounded, said.

“Today we come here to evoke the bravery of our ancestors and to reaffirm in the present the commitment to the principles that have guided our heroes and martyrs, like those brave young people who took history by storm,” he pointed out.

He also recalled the three valuable sons of this land who participated in the feat of July 26, 1953, where Reemberto Abad Alemán lost his life, while Antonio Darío López and Ricardo Santana survived the action.

Guantanamo.-  Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, Leader of the Cuban Revolution, and the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, preside this Friday in Sancti Spíritus over the central act for the 71st anniversary of the assault on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes barracks.

Representing the people of Cuba, more than 5,000 people from Sancti Spiritus gathered at the Plaza Mayor General Serafín Sánchez Valdivia, in the main city, to highlight the comprehensive performance of the territory in the last stage, which included the lowest infant mortality rate in the country.

Around 140 friends from 24 countries also came to the city to commemorate this historic event led by the Commander in Chief, Fidel Castro Ruz, on July 26, 1953.

Along with Raúl, and as part of the historic generation, were also the Commander of the Revolution and assailant of Moncada, Ramiro Valdés Menéndez, as well as José Ramón Machado Ventura, Commander of the Rebel Army.  Also present were the highest authorities of the Party, the Government and the mass organizations in the province. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulates Santi Spiritus Province on July 26th

Guantánamo- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel congratulated the people of central Sancti Spíritus province, venue of the main event on National Rebelliousness Day on Friday.

On his X profile, the president highlighted the nobility and industriousness of the people of Sancti Spiritus.

The leader of the Cuban Revolution, Raúl Castro, and President Díaz-Canel chaired the main event on National Rebelliousness Day in Sancti Spíritus on Friday.

In front of some 5,000 local residents, representing all Cubans, Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa expressed the country’s will to face economic challenges and promote its independent development.

In his speech, he reaffirmed the will to defend the Cuban Revolution in the face of US aggressiveness.

At the Major General Serafín Sánchez Valdivia Revolution Square, the people of Sancti Spíritus celebrated the 71st anniversary of the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Céspedes garrisons, which paved the way for the insurrectional fight against the dictatorship of Fulgencio Batista (1952-1959).

Also present are a delegation from Vietnam, and members of the José Martí European Brigade of Volunteer Work and Solidarity with Cuba, and the Juan Rius Rivera Brigade, from Puerto Rico, as well as the Venceremos Brigade, from the United States.

There is also a delegation of Cuban-Americans from the José Martí Cultural Society, an Afro-American group of solidarity with Cuba, and foreign students who recently graduated from the University of Medical Sciences in Sancti Spíritus.

This is the third time that the main event for the Moncada anniversary is commemorated in Sancti Spíritus, the homeland of Major General Serafín Sánchez Valdivia, hero of all three independence wars and a personal friend of José Martí.

The national event was also attended by more than 130 friends of the Revolution, including members of the European José Martí brigade of voluntary work and solidarity with Cuba, the Juan Rius Rivera Brigade from Puerto Rico, as well as the José Martí Cultural Society from the United States, who attended a meeting of international solidarity with the island the day before.
