Guantánamo – Faced with the imminent threat posed to eastern Cuba by Tropical Storm Melissa, authorities in the mountainous municipality of Yateras, in Guantánamo province, are reinforcing measures to protect the population.
In this context of preparations and early warning, a coordination meeting was held with the presence of the municipality’s top authorities, the Head of the Red Cross, the Civil Defense Specialist, and the Head of the Civil Defense brigade in the territory.
During the meeting, essential protective equipment, including helmets, vests, and stretchers, was formally handed over to members of the Red Cross in this territory, which is almost entirely mountainous and ranks third in Guantánamo province in terms of its natural, forestry, and agricultural resources.

This equipment not only strengthens the operational capacity of the response and protection teams but also ensures that personnel are properly prepared and on alert to act quickly and efficiently in the face of any contingency arising from the meteorological phenomenon or any other situation that may require it.
