Several research centers, companies, universities, specialists, professors and students with outstanding work in the application of science and technological innovation to solve society’s problems, will be awarded today in this city, on occasion of commemorating the next 15 January, the Cuban Science Day.

The provincial ceremony for the relevant anniversary will take place this Saturday, at 8:30 am, in the Antonia Luisa Cabal Concert Hall, where the provincial delegation of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma) will recognize 14 entities of the eastern territory that established alliances, shared tools, knowledge and developed common mechanisms to solve pressing difficulties.

The Master of Science Jesús Martín Pérez, territorial delegate, reported that the event will be an opportune moment for the delivery of diplomas to nine teachers and 29 students with distinguished results in National Competitions and international Olympiads on different subjects.

17 students from the University of Guantanamo and six from its Medical Sciences counterpart will also be awarded in the categories of students and young researchers.

Likewise, four workers with long experience in the scientific sector will receive the Juan Tomás Roig Distinction, established in tribute to the tobacco worker who became one of the most renowned Cuban scientists due to his intelligence and dedication.

The Citma provincial delegation will also recognize two local media outlets and a former radio leader for excellence in communicating news and events related to the Guantanamo scientific community.

Martín Pérez announced that the Annual Awards for outstanding results in science, technology and innovation will be awarded to 22 researchers, of which 14 are from the University of Guantánamo and Medical Sciences, and the rest from scientific centers, Health and local companies.

He added that in Guantánamo he registered advances in science, technology and innovation in the year 2023, especially in aspects related to the management of government bodies, a fundamental element to boost development processes in the municipalities.

The manager stressed that the eastern province closed the aforementioned stage with 11 social and economic innovations, which led to changes in the productive matrices.
