While most of the Cuba’s medals at the 24th Central American and Caribbean Games, are obtained by the training of athletes in the largest sport facilities, some are forged on the sound and of waves of the sea, somewhat far from the regional sports epicenter. That is the case of the gold medal won by the athlete from Caimanera, Jaimet Ruano Vázquez in the sunfish modality in the sport of sailing.
Ruano scored 17 points in eight races in her competition, with no less than two first places, four seconds and one third. The furthest she got from the lead was fifth in heat four.
Before this performance in the waters of the Apulo Recreational Park, Ruano Vázquez surpassed the Colombian Cifuentes and the Mexican Valdez, who, in that order, got the remaining seats on the podium.
This gold medal of Ruano stopped the golden drought of Cuba in this sport modality 17 years ago. The previous gold medal dated from the 2006 Cartagena de Indias event.
It is worth to say that with performance of the athlete from Caimanera in the 2023 Central American and Caribbean Games, in San Salvador, she qualified for the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile from October 20 to November 5 of this year.
