Guantanamo.- The Union of Journalists of Cuba (UPEC) in Guantánamo begins its 2026 Provincial Press Day on March 4th and runs until March 15th. This year’s event will be marked by profound patriotic and generational symbolism, in a context of particular complexity for the country.

Taimí Pérez Fernández, president of the UPEC in the province, told to the Cuban News Agency (ACN) that the decision to hold the event stems from its nature as a tribute and encouragement to the members of eight local branches, comprised of the 120 members in the territory.

She noted that despite the difficult conditions the country is experiencing, the event will proceed because it serves as a tribute, recognition, and encouragement to the membership.

The UPEC leader highlighted the resilience of Guantánamo journalists in the face of an energy crisis, climate emergencies, and an intense media campaign against the Cuban state.
