Guantanamo.- Glories of Cuban Sport, in Guantánamo, shared their experiences with a representation of journalists from different media outlets as part of the Cuban Press Day that is celebrated every March 14, on occasion of the founding of the Patria Newspaper by José Martí.
At the headquarters of the Municipal Sports Directorate, its highest representative Paula Cisneros Robles welcomed the audience at a meeting chaired by Taimí Fernández Pérez, President of the provincial Association of Cuban Journalist (UPEC, in Spanish abbreviation) and Arletty Leyva Cordoví, Director of Information and Communication at the same level.
This is how their stories became known inside and outside Cuba, as well as the work they still do with the new generation of athletes. They have contributed so much to the Guantanamo sports movement, which has achieved some 25 Olympic medals, 15 of them gold, among its main results.
The capital municipality has some 53 Glories of Cuban Sport, many of them still linked to the different existing Sports Teams, from where the community practice of various disciplines is promoted, anecdotes that also became known in the meeting, which was marked by the pride of remaining in their land, and left behind, the offer of million-dollars, to leave the country.
Likewise, reflection was made on the need for a greater reflection in the media of the life stories of the Glories of Sport in Guantanamo, as well as on the Internet, a way to reinforce the identity and share the legacy of men and women who, in addition to contributing to the sports movement, have a family behind them, who love their successes.
The meeting with journalists was attended by Central American champions Juan Saborit Céspedes, in athletics; Ernesto Visset, in boxing; Marlen Bubaire, in softball; Osvaldo Duvergel, in baseball, among others with outstanding performance.
The representation of journalists from Guantanamo expressed their pride in the meeting Glorias del Deporte, in an exchange that culminated with recreational games and dance therapy.
