Guantanamo.- Cuban triple jumper Lázaro Martínez achieved his personal best of the season today, jumping 17.14 meters (m) to fourth place and lead Cuba’s path to victory at the World Athletics Indoor Championships Toruń 2026, Poland.
Despite arriving at the competition venue not ranked among the top 10 this season, the 2022 champion in this event scored three jumps over 17 meters and was once again in contention for medals, although it wasn’t enough to secure a place on the podium.
The two-time outdoor world champion achieved 17.02 m on his first attempt, then jumped the aforementioned 17.14 m, and completed his sequence with 16.80, 17.03, and 16.90 m, with one foul.
The crown remained in the hands of the Cuban Andy Díaz, who competes for Italy, who achieved 17.47 m, and in addition to becoming the second man in history with two consecutive reigns, he signed it with the top record of the year.
