The Provincial Directorate of Culture in Guantanamo activated its temporary working group due to weather event and adopted a set of measures for the protection of its staff and students in the artistic teaching centers in the territory and the more than 190 institutions of the culture sector, in order to protect the heritage areas.
Yoelvis Labañino Núñez, head of the cultural sector in the province, declared that the actions aim to preserve the lives of workers and protect material resources in the cultural institutions of the eastern territory:
- Protection of personnel and the more than 190 institutions of the cultural sector, in order to also protect their museological and bibliographic heritage.
- Guarantee the protection of the 137 scholarship students from the Antonia Luisa Cabal Professional Schools of Music, Alfredo Velázquez Professional Dance School and Art Instructors of the province and the necessary resources for the stay of the boarding students in these institutions and the accompaniment of the students by teachers who assume the workers’ guard during these days.
- Suspension of the usual passes granted to the students of the centers mentioned before, to avoid their movement to their municipalities in this period of intense rains in the province and suspension of the cultural programming planned during these days in the province, and readjust the activities of the Andante Cinema Festival, as well as to reschedule the presentation of the National Circus of Cuba in the province this weekend, for when weather conditions allow it.
- Ensure the protection of the material resources and technical equipment of the institutional system of culture in the province and the facilities of the institutional system of culture to reduce the impact of intense rains and possible flooding in areas prone to them, and preserve the bibliographic collections of the province’s library and bookstore networks.
