Guantánamo – More than five thousand first grade students experienced a special day this Tuesday in the ten municipalities of the Guantánamo Province, receiving the blue scarf that identifies them as members of the José Martí Pioneers Organization (OPJM), as a worthy tribute to Commander Ernesto Che Guevara, on the occasion of the 57th anniversary of his assassination in Bolivia.
With the presence of Yoel Pérez García, the first secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Party, and Carlos Manuel Turro, vice-governor at the same level, the territorial act was carried out at the Rodolfo Rosell Salas Primary School, in the main city, where 45 students received the pioneer attribute from parents, educators and leaders of the Party and the Government.
In the emotional ceremony, which began with a floral offering before the bust of José Martí in the school square, the pioneers performed poems and songs dedicated to Che Guevara, to the Cuban flag and to the evocation of the wish expressed by Fidel that the new generations be like the Heroic Guerrilla, for the human example of the revolutionary in his actions.
On October 8, more than 500 primary schools experienced moments of joy when children received the blue scarf and began a new stage in which they must participate in extracurricular activities, practice the rules of formal education and fulfill the duties of the organization that brings them together.
In this way from October 8 through October 28, activities will be celebrating the lives and legacies of Comandantes Ernesto Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos, began in the eastern province, where schools hold special activities, visit places of historical interest, have special cultural performances, book presentations, and calls for contests that exalt the figures of both heroes.
In Guantánamo, there are more than 50,000 members of the José Martí Pioneers Organization, in charge of supporting the training of future followers of the social, cultural, scientific and economic work of Cuba.
