In Guantanamo, measures are adopted for the transportation of passengers due to the limitations of fuel, parts and pieces, as well as lubricants for the maintenance of buses destined to cover the itineraries of twenty routes.

Orestes Hernández Martínez, deputy director of Operations and Passenger of the Provincial Directorate of Transportation, reported that the boarding points are reinforced with inspectors from the sector, while the demand for those who are in charge of state cars, contribute to the transfer of people and in line with the provisions of the Prime Minister, Manuel Marrero Cruz in that sense, non-compliance is considered serious indiscipline.

In this complex scenario, route 5 – which covers the route from Pedro A Pérez and Pintó Streets to the Vocational School – and route 7 are prioritized in the Guantanamo City; from this educational center itself to the San Justo neighborhood. Other buses make trips mainly from Monday to Friday in the morning and afternoon.

Hernández Martínez added that connection between the municipal towns and the capital city of the province are also guaranteed.

The main causes of the limitations for passenger transportation in Guantanamo lie in the lack of replacement parts and accessories, fuels and lubricants, which are mostly imported and their acquisition is difficult due to the restrictions of the intensified US blockade against Cuba.
