Guantanamo.- Alpidio Alonso Grau, Minister of Culture, led a visit to Guantánamo to check the progress of the recovery in the sector and contribute to the promotion of this stage, in the municipalities affected by Hurricane Oscar.
The minister traveled to the city of Baracoa, where he learned about the effects on cultural institutions in that territory, including the Encanto cinema, the headquarters of the Hermanos Saíz Association cell and the Matachín Museum, and noted the revival as a sign of the territory’s priority over Culture, the nation’s shield and sword.
Along with Alonso Grau, a delegation of artists arrived in the Cuban Upper East to share with the people in these difficult times. The list included actress Clara García (professor Amalia, from the series Calendario), the improviser Emiliano Sardiñas, the troubadours Raúl Torres and Ariel Barreiro; the oral narrator Leiris Guerrero (Tata Mora, from the television program Amanecer Feliz) and Diango González, president of the National Council of Cultural Houses.
The brigade, which was accompanied by representatives of the institutional system of Culture in the province and the town, performed at the Desembarco Secondary School in Playita and the community of Jesús Lores, in Imías; in addition to the artists performed in Macambo, the Máximo Gómez Pre-University and the central park of San Antonio del Sur, places where the people welcomed them with pleasure.
“This is one of the greatest gifts that an artist can receive and give, to cheer people’s souls, and give them hope. That is why we came and with that mission we will continue to Pilón, Granma, where the recent earthquake caused serious damage,” Diango González said, who leads the group of creators who voluntarily accompany the Minister of Culture on this tour of the eastern part of the country.
