Guantanamo.- The Ministry of Agriculture in the province of Guantánamo proposes planting approximately 400 hectares of tomatoes during the current cold planting season in the Caujerí Valley, a figure that doubles the amount achieved during previous stages in this productive area.
Alverny Veranes Favier, the Ministry of Agriculture’s delegate in the territory, explained that to achieve this goal, it is necessary to extend the development time of the seedbeds to recover from the damage caused by the heavy rains.
Currently, priority is being given to land preparation by creating tractor platoons available in the municipality of San Antonio del Sur and other territories, as well as the use of work oxen. It could be a chance for meeting the challenge given the optimal use of available resources.
Alverny Verane Favier,Delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture in Guantánamo, positively praised the availability of sufficient water in the Pozo Azul reservoir, which allows irrigation of more than 2,000 hectares in this productive area.
