Guantánamo.- With the lecture entitled “Thinking about Culture as a Decolonial Key,” led by PhD. Noralis Palomo and MsC. José Sanchez Guerra, the Cuban Culture Day began at the Guantánamo Provincial Museum, a moment of remembrance of the national history and commemoration of the 157th anniversary of the beginning of the country’s independence struggles.

Students and professors from the University of Guantánamo’s Project Con Mochila al Hombro (Backpack on the Shoulder) attended the event, accompanied by Yoelvys Labañino López, head of the Culture sector in Guantánamo, Sailín Frómeta Tito, Secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Young Communists League (UJC), as well as local historians and members of the José Martí Cultural Society.

Historical remembrances of the independence uprising on October 10, 1868, in La Demajagua, led by the Father of the Nation, Carlos Manuel de Céspedes, as well as references to the libertarian legacy of Guantanamo patriot Pedro Agustín Pérez, distinguished this inaugural event in the territory, dedicated to the centennial of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz and the 95th birthday of Cuban intellectual Armando Hart Dávalos.

The opening artistic gala of the Cuban Culture Day in Guantánamo will take place in Plaza 24 de Febrero at 9 p.m., followed by a special presentation at 8:30 p.m. in the Antonia Luisa Cabal Salis Concert Hall, performed by the Sultasto Quartet from the province of Las Tunas, directed by maestro Elvira Skourtis. This ensemble will share the stage with the territory’s Guitar Orchestra.
