In Alto del Jobo, a site located about thirty kilometers northeast of the Guantanamo town of Imías, farmers are using the discovery of a thermogenic natural gas deposit for cooking and other activities.

Discovered by the young Alejandro González Utria, a native of Alto del Jobo, who has been using this fossil gas for three years to cook his food.

González, a lover of electronics, told that the gas is found in other nearby farms, and according to the experts from the national company Cupet who visited the place, it is not toxic and research continues for its greater use in the area.

Thermogenic natural gas is a fossil fuel that is formed when layers of organic matter (primarily marine microorganisms) are thermally decomposed under oxygen-free conditions, subjected to intense heat and pressure underground over millions of years.
