Guantánamo.- A group of 18 families in Imías Municipality, in Guantánamo Province, will benefit from the construction of the first group of houses for people affected by the recent weather events.
In this Guantanamo region, the floods and landslides caused by Hurricane Oscar destroyed 70 houses, affecting mainly places such as Yacabo Abajo, Cajobabo, Los Pinos, El Cocal, Carrisal and El Mangal.
The Airport esplanade, conceived as a development area, will be the base of the new settlement. Yoenis Rodríguez Planche, director of the base business unit, Epcons Manuel Tames, of the Provincial Construction Enterprise, explained that 11 typology of two combined family dwellings (half wood and half blocks) will be delivered, of which there are already more than 90% complete, in the stage of flooring, painting applied and electrical installation.
In total, 24 houses have already been started, and there is the collaboration of construction teams and the essential support of those who will benefit. The 30 planned houses will be completed next year.
The Provincial Defense Council established total demolition as a priority for the delivery of the properties. These residents were temporarily relocated.
