The Plenary Session of the Provincial Committee of the Communist Party in Guantanamo agreed today, at the request of the Political Bureau, to release Rafael Pérez Fernández from the position of First Secretary and in his place they elected Yoel Pérez García, who served as Vice Head of the Department for the Social Sector in the Central Committee of the Party.
Yoel Pérez is a specialist in General Medicine. He is 48 years old and for more than 20 years has been a political cadre, holding different positions in the Young Communist League until becoming Second Secretary of its National Committee.
In the Communist Party he served as a member of the Provincial Executive Bureau in Villa Clara and as vice head of the Department in the Central Committee since 2021, in which he demonstrated work capacity and development prospects.
The new secretary of the Provincial Committee of the Party in Guantanamo, Yoel Pérez García, completed diplomas in Public Administration, in Political Management at the “Ñico López” Party University and in National Security and Defense at CODEN.
Participants in the Plenary recognized the personal qualities and dedication of Rafael Pérez Fernández for over five years at the head of the Provincial Committee. He will be assigned other tasks.
The Plenary Session was chaired by Roberto Morales Ojeda, member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of Organization of the Central Committee of the Party, and Humberto Camilo Hernández Suarez, Member of the Central Committee and Head of its Cadre Policy Department.
