Guantánamo – An exchange with company directors, presidents of Credit and Service Cooperatives, leading producers, prominent farmers, and those with promising prospects in land cultivatio, took place this Tuesday, February 3, in the municipality of Niceto Perez, in the province of Guantánamo.
With the presence of the main Party authorities, the local government, representatives of the National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP), and other relevant organizations, the objective to set the commitment to producing food for the people was analyzed.
This commitment requires greater effort given the complex international scenario, the intensification of the imperialist blockade, and the global economic crisis.
The meeting once again proved an opportune moment to emphasize the need to continue joining forces to achieve better yields from the land in this region, where agricultural producers are experiencing a recovery after the severe drought, thanks to recent rains and the overflowing of the La Yaya dam.
Producers are also adopting traditional methods, such as the use of oxen to plough the land, and they are planning to harvest short-cycle crops like sweet potatoes, tomatoes, soybeans, and corn with an efficient irrigation system.
At institutional level, it is expected that 98% of the agreed-upon plantings will be completed, with investments in infrastructure that optimize water use and improve food self-sufficiency.
