Guantanamo.- Civil Defense reported that, according to confirmation from the National Center for Seismological Research (CENAIS), no seismic activity was recorded in the country on the afternoon of Tuesday, August 18.
Dr. Enrique Arango, head of research at CENAIS, assured Tele Turquino that the national seismological network did not detect any seismic events during that time. He described as “completely false” the alert that was sent to some mobile phones, which caused confusion among the population.
CENAIS authorities urge the public to rely solely on official sources for information and to avoid spreading unverified messages, in order to prevent false alarms and unnecessary panic.
“In the event of a genuine earthquake, our systems and official channels will promptly activate the appropriate protocols,” stated Dr. Arango.
