For seventh time, the Literary Festival La Isla en Peso, sponsored by the Hermanos Saíz Association (AHS) in Guantanamo, will take place from January 15 to 17, 2019 in this city, to promote the work of young writers in the country as well as the new creative trends in that field.
The event will be dedicated to the publishing houses of the Holguín, Villa Clara, Cienfuegos, Matanzas provinces and the Isla de la Juventud special municipality; the event will also have among his special guests the writers Carlos Alberto Esquivel, Luis Yuseff, Idier García and Rafael Carballosa, these last three coordinators of the literary labels La Luz, Sed de Belleza and Áncora, respectively.
Yecenia Ramírez Sosa, head of the literature section of the AHS in Guantanamo, said that the program of the meeting includes the theoretical workshop on the publishing labels at the Regino Eladio Boti Art and Literature Center, with the presence of local writers as José Ramón Sánchez and José Raúl Fraguela; as well as a tour round the historical centre of the city, an initiative of the Grafomanía project.
The Lecturas de Estación space will also be held, in charge of new writers who will bring some of their texts to institutions, schools and communities; while in the José Martí Park, the anthology Extremo Oriental. Poetas guantanameros del Nuevo Siglo (Eastern End. Guantanamo Poets of the New Century) and the book Punto de quiebre (Broken Point), of Wilfredo Robas, novelties for the coming Book Fair, will be presented.
At the end of the festival, La Isla en Peso Scholarship will be awarded by the AHS and the Provincial Book Center together with the magazine El Mar y la Montaña, to stimulate the creation of the young artistic and intellectual avant-garde of the archipelago. To date, 43 works have been submitted by six provinces.
