The program of urban planning of the Baracoa and Guantanamo cities are a tool for governments to ensure the coherent and sustainable development of these territories in the coming years, said Lisandra Hurtado, the main urban planning specialist at the provincial department of Physical Planning
She explained that recently the documents approved by the Executive Committee of the Council of Ministers, foresee the main investments to be made in these cities, the areas of new development and their urbanization, the use of land and the technical infrastructure works of roads, houses, among others,.
In the case of Baracoa, said the main specialist, the development plans respond especially to the principles of the Tarea Vida Program for the confrontation to climate change, while that territory is one of the 15 zones identified in the country as the most vulnerable to the sea level rise and extreme climatic events.
For Baracoa investment in sewage construction, the completion of the Duaba aqueduct, the relocation of populations living in risk areas such as La Playita and Camilo Cienfuegos neighborhoods, the urbanization of the development zones and the works to protect the boardwalk, she added.
Hurtado stressed that compliance with the program of urban planning of Baracoa and Guantanamo will be followed rigorously every three months by the Executive Council of the Council of Ministers that participated in its approval, as also happens with Santiago de Cuba and Havana cities.
