It was not really a surprise, as it was expected, the world backed Cuba on a day of voting that will be remembered for a long time, the United States was defeated ten times in the UN General Assembly and was isolated again in its eagerness to maintain the economic, commercial and financial blockade against our people.
The empire neither divided nor won, one by one, all its amendments projects were rejected by the international community that did not allow itself to be manipulated or confused with absurd artifices in the matter of human rights, even more in a matter that refers to the most unjust, severe and prolonged siege that has been applied against any country in modern history.
The resolution that has been uninterruptedly presented by Cuba for 27 years to condemn the blockade was supported by 189 member countries of the UN and was rejected by two, the United States and Israel, while there were no abstentions.
Persistent in its wrong strategy and resorting to instruments already used, America tried to deceive and failed. At this point the world knows well the negative impact of that unjust policy; the figures are there, although it causes incalculable human costs.
Touching stories told this Thursday by Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez testify to this, like that of the Guantanamera girl with a malignant spinal tumor that can not be treated with Temozolamide, the optimal drug produced in the United States, the blockade prevents it.
But the White House has not learnt from the lesson, still has not understand that indifference to the suffering of others, hatred, arrogant and dishonest attitudes, commercial and financial obstacles do not lead to safe harbor, their ship sinks every year before the ethics response of the world.
What happened at the UN is the victory of multilateralism, a collective triumph of nations that for years have supported Cuba in its just claim to end what it considers the main obstacle to the economic and social development of its people.
Thankful to be accompanied by the international community and the dignified attitude of Cuban diplomats in the General Assembly of the United Nations, we will continue saying Cuba Yes, Blockade NO.
