After several years rescuing memories, reading hundreds of materials and traveling from Moscow to Havana, and then from the Caribbean country to the world's largest nation, an indispensable book was ready: “Raul Castro, un hombre en Revolucion”, whose author is a close friend of the Cuban president, who managed to put together one of the works that with more objectivity has approached the personality of a statesman.
International press agencies have just reported about the presentation of the book in Moscow, which nor only deals with the personal life of the Army General, but is a valuable compilation of the facts that have marked the island in the recent decades. The launch was attended by the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Leonov, who stressed the work of Raul Castro, “a paradigm of integrity and dedication to his country and people", Granma reports.
In this text Leonov retells that in March 1978, during the celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the Second Eastern Front, he heard the Cuban leader say: "We were able to make history, but until now, we have been unable to write about it". With this book, the author announces from its first pages, "I will try to fill that space."
During the recent visit to Moscow on the occasion of the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the victory over fascism, Raul met with Leonov and his family.
And in this great effort he built a work born in May 1953, when he met the current President of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba aboard of the Andrea Gritti. Then Leonov traveled to Mexico to study at the Faculty of Philology and Philosophy of the National Autonomous University, while Raul returned to Havana along with two young Guatemalans, after participating in the preparation of the World Youth Festival that would be held in August that year, in Bucharest.
The book, having a version in Russian language and one in Spanish by the Capitan San Luis Publishing House, also treasures a chronology of the most important events in the life of Raul Castro and more than 80 photos, some unpublished.
During the recent visit to Moscow on the occasion of the celebrations for the 70th anniversary of the victory over fascism, Raul Castro met with Leonov at the hotel where in those days he stayed. In the encounter Raul said to be happy. "I have in my hands the story of my life. I´ m excited to re-read it. 62 years have past since we met and it is a lot of history treasured in this book”, he confessed.
"We fulfilled our word," Leonov said upon seeing off his fried, after expressing gratefulness for the dedicated in the bustle of his stay in Moscow, the anecdotes shared that afternoon, loving messages with the signing of Raul on the first page several copies, given to family members of the Russian writer and the final photo, in which all came together and each of the visits made to Havana.
The writer wrote in his book: "I have the personal satisfaction of ratifying how successful I was that day in May 1953, when in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea I came to Raul!” Now readers will be the definite judges.
