Guantanamo Medical University’s Staff Focuses on Higher Quality Training

Guantanamo UCMThe analysis of achievements  of the main work objectives related to teaching, research and the humanistic sense of future health professionals was one of the key issues discussed during the Balance Assembly of the University of Medical Sciences  (UCM) of Guantanamo corresponding to the 2019 year.

In this sense, Alis Cantalapiedra Luque, rector of UCM, stressed that last year the general results of promotion were with a quality above 4 points on average and 67 studentes graduated with Honor Diploma and 12 received the award to Scientific Merit for its relevant research contributions.

In the same way there was an outstanding participation of students in socio-cultural projects such as “Saving lives” and “Medical Sciences in the Street”, from which they had the opportunity to donate blood and carry out health promotion actions in several communities in favor of minimizing the high rate of infestation of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito and improve the lifestyles of the population.

During the balance assembly for the year 2019, the University of Medical Sciences of Guantanamo met the work projections for the current stage, among which are the guarantee of training in the specialties of basic biomedical sciences, strengthening the actions for compliance with the doctoral training strategy and the process to categorize the professor staff, among other actions.

In the present school year, the UCM enrolled more than 600 students in the Nursing, Stomatology and Medicine careers, 45 of them from the Latin American School of Medicine, in addition to the young people who are trained as health technologists .
