From this Monday until next March 7, the first stage of the 59th National Polio Vaccination Campaign is carried out in Guantanamo, where more than 18,200 children under one month of birth, up to 2 years, 11 months and 29 days will be immunized.
Eglis Quiala Ducás, Head of the Provincial Nursing Section, said that in addition to the vaccinations of the health areas, the family doctor's offices are available with all the human and material resources, to carry out this activity successfully.
The oral vaccine is quite harmless, however the child should not eat food or water during the 30 minutes prior to the administration of the drop or in the next half hour.
Next week the dose will be administered for those who are currently ill or suffer from any of these contraindications at the time of vaccination and cannot be immunized.
With the implementation in Cuba of the Vaccination campaign, the population is protected from 13 diseases such as measles, rubella, neonatal tetanus and polio, a true achievement of the Revolution.
