Today is the commemoration of the 155th anniversary of October 10, it is fair to reaffirm the meaning of that glorious date for the Cuban people, for the revolutionaries in our homeland.
In the current complex circumstances in which the revolutionary process is developing in Cuba, it is particularly important to remember the event itself and the assessment made by Fidel on the centenary of the event: “In Cuba there has only been one Revolution: the one started by Carlos Manuel de Céspedes on October 10, 1868.”
Knowing in detail the sacrifices and loyalty of the revolutionaries who began and continued the historical work is an essential value to win now and tomorrow. The present – and in many aspects the immediate future – is presented as a meeting for the Cuban people towards the need to face changes and challenges, in achieving the objectives of perfecting the socialist project in the country, within the framework constitutional approved majority by the population in 2019.
This Fidel’s recommendation, as well as the ratification of the meaning of October 10 for the Cuban revolutionaries in continuity, was underlined by Miguel Mario Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, in the very setting of the historical events, in the commemoration in 2018.
In particular, the current president of the Republic of Cuba highlighted values such as the unity that must prevail among Cubans, and addressed especially the current protagonists of the processes that are being developed to make Cuba a more prosperous and a happy nation.
He said on that memorable occasion: “Here today, the youngest sons of the country have shared the message to the new generations that expresses our firm determination that we will not give up, we will not betray and we will never surrender.”
And Díaz-Canel concluded: “Let us assume as our own and as a firm decision of continuity, the words of Fidel that October 10, 1968, because this people, just as they have fought 100 years for their destiny, are capable of fighting another 100 for this same destiny.” destination”.
