Different concerns related to fishing, banking, commerce, telephony, transportation, and other services stood out among the relevant topics of the dialogue between the main authorities of the province of Guantánamo and the residents of Tortuguilla District 5, Yateritas People’s Council.
In an atmosphere of respect and transparency, Yoel Pérez García, First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) in the territory, and Governor Alis Azahares Torreblanca responded and facilitated attention to each concern.
In light of the main concerns, the population was provided with updated information on the electricity situation, the distribution of the regulated basic food basket, as well as on the latest provocations by the United States government regarding the use of the illegal naval base located in Guantánamo Bay, among other issues of social interest.
Detailed evaluation on the establishment of a nearby boat mooring and improvements in the organization of fishing activities, maintenance of the local telephone tower, and the opening of an additional telephone exchange, remained pending.
The “Open Dialogue with the People” exchange space strengthens the ties with citizens in Guantánamo and, at this stage, broadens the scope to include communities outside the provincial capital. Hence, the latest meetings were scheduled for the municipalities of Caimanera, Niceto Pérez, and San Antonio del Sur.
