
Some 15 workers and union leaders from Guantanamo were recognized with the First and Third Degree Lázaro Peña Order, as part of the activities to celebrate the International Day of the World Proletariat.
Among them, Leonardo Fernández, doctor specializing in internal medicine and intensive care stands out, who is also one of the founder of the Henry Reeve Brigade that contributed to fight Ebola in Africa and Covid-19 in Italy, among other merits achieved during more than 40 years of continuous work in the health sector.
The labor movement also distinguishes Fernando Girón and Máximo Perigo from Guantanamo, the latter from the Civil Defense and Construction Union, two consecrated workers who have left their mark on social, productive and economic works in the eastern territory.
During the gala ceremony presided over by Rafael Pérez Fernández, First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party in Guantanamo, other consecrated workers also received the Jesús Menéndez Medal for maintaining an outstanding attitude in production, defense and services.
The Rubén López Sabariego House of Culture in Guantanamo City was the venue of the ceremony where other groups of outstanding workers were awarded with the Internationalist medal, men and women followers of the legacy of the captain of the working class Lázaro Peña.
Other professionals from Health, the Press, Construction, Public Administration, Energy and Civil Defense sectors were also honored.
