The Cuban Workers Federation in Guantanamo pays tribute to the combatants of Playa Girón today, when the whole country celebrates the first great victory against imperialism in Latin America in 1961 commemorating the 63rd anniversary of that event.

The Unions in the province organize intergenerational meetings to visit student and work centers as well as talks with the people to learn about the history told by their protagonists as part of the program of activities carried out in the province honoring the heroes of that feat.

As a culmination of the program of activities, the CTC in the Cuban eastern territory, together with the Association of Combatants, will recognize in the Mariana Grajales Cuello Square the ten men who carried out the event on April 19, 1961.

Guantanamo residents had an active participation in the defeat of Yankee imperialism in Playa Girón sands. That´s why every year a day is dedicated for the survivors to share anecdotes and lived experiences of the courage demonstrated by the Cuban troops allowing the victory in less than 72 hours under the accurate guidance of Fidel Castro.
