Plenary session of the Guantánamo Scientific and Productive Pole heldRepresentatives of a dozen institutions and organizations arrived at kilometer one and a half of the road that leads from the provincial capital to Santiago de Cuba, a place known as Cabaña de Mariana and farm of the producer Ricardo Beltran Suarez, to develop the plenary session of the Guantanamo Scientific and Productive Pole, corresponding to the first semester of the year, sponsored by the provincial delegations of the Ministries of Agriculture and Science, Technology and Environment (CITMA).

Leidys Gonzalez Moran, deputy delegate of Science and Innovation at CITMA, while opening the event, highlighted the importance of the exchange of knowledge on the farms with producers where experts from the Institute of Soils, Agricultural Engineering, Plant and Animal Health, the Guantanamo University and the Cuban Association of Agricultural and Forestry Technicians (ACTAF), as well as the Cuban Association for Animal Production (ACPA), can contribute their knowledge and recommendations.

The tour of Finca La Sorpresa included areas for the production of worm humus, sheep breeding, the apiary and sweet potato, banana and fruit crops.

Fernando Matos Columbie, worker at the farm, explained the benefits of efficient microorganisms to increase milk yields per cow and how they substitute the original raw materials to obtain them with others existing on the farm.

For his part, farmer Ricardo Beltran explained the potential of using bees for optimum crop pollination and substituting sugar for honey, in addition to multiplying forage and honey plants, as long as the electrical installations for pumping water from the surrounding river are installed.
